I received my training in photography from the University of Central Arkansas Community School instructed by Mike Kemp. I completed Kemp’s basic course in Fall 2010 and the Advanced Course in Spring 2011. I have had over fifteen years of experience running a successful portrait photography business. In addition, I have won numerous awards both locally and internationally and have had my photography published in Capture Arkansas. Having been involved in photography instruction for over twelve years, I’ve taught workshops on photography and camera operation, given individual lessons, taught through an established art gallery, led classes in homeschool co-ops, and taught structured courses for homeschoolers in the EFA program.

The online course includes a series of six lessons. Each lesson is approximately 30-60 minutes long and includes an assignment. In some cases the video lessons go into more depth than the in-person class, because in this setting students are able to adjust to their own pace, current understanding, and past experience. Students may upload their photos to the class page for feedback/assessment.
The in-person course combines instruction with real life, hands-on experience. The class begins with an instructional time that includes visual examples of concepts taught and concludes with practice time incorporating teacher help and feedback. Students of the in-person class are also given access to the online lessons and are invited to take part in the online class forum to post their assignments and receive an assessment from the teacher and encouragement from other students.
